DIY Friendship Bracelets

You'll need:
  • Embroidery Thread
  • Scissors
  • Sticky Tape or Clip Board

This is just a simple 3 colour chevron friendship bracelet, you can chose more than 3 colours but we'll start with 3. First you need chose your colours, measure around your wrist plus about 5cm then double that. Then cut 2 of each colour. Combine the threads and tie a knot about 5cm down. Now tape it to a flat surface or clip on the clip board. Seperate the two sets, arranging the strands in a mirror-image pattern with the outside strands the same colour and so on moving inwards.

Start on the left side with the outer colour (shown here in orange) and make a forward knot by making a 4-shape over the 2nd colour (shown here in red), loop it under and back through the opening.

Pull up and to the right to tighten. Do this twice over each colour. Continue knotting over each colour, towards the right, until the outer colour has carried over to the middle. You've now finished one half of the chevron pattern.

Next pick up the outer colour on the right side (shown here in orange) and make a backward knot, by making a backwards 4 shape over the second colour, loop it under and back through the opening. Pull up to the left to tighten. Remember to knot twice over each colour.
Keep knotting over each colour, towards the left until you reach the middle. Now you should have the two outer colours in the middle (which is orange for me) and make a forward knot. Don't forget to knot it twice! Now you have finished your first chevron pattern. Continue doing this until your finished.
Now that you have finished you bracelet, I'm going to show you how to finished it off with a Square Knot. First tie knots on the ends (as shown in the photo) and make a circle with the bracelet and place the ends next to each other. Cut a piece of embroidery thread and lay it under both parts. Fold the right thread over the ends and under the left thread.

Pull the left thread under the ends and through the loop on the right. Now pull tightly. Now you want to do this in reverse, so fold the left thread over the ends and under the right thread, pull the right thread under the ends and through the loop on the left. Keep alternating until you've done it about 10 times. When your done tie a knot.
Now your done! It should look like this. You can adjust the length and easily take it on and off.
